Loved it, loved it, loved it!!!! Loved it so much, I am making it again this week to take to a party this Saturday. Its a definite keeper. Check out the bazillion different versions from the TWD blogroll.

it wasn’t meant to be. I couldnt find the cookies in 3 different groceries. And then, this is how I spent my morning.

I will be absent from TWD this week and mostly likely next. I know, I know, that’s 3 weeks in a row. But, my Grandma Kennedy passed away yesterday. We will be traveling, and if I do any baking at all, it will be my Grandma’s recipes for my family.

I will be back in action in 2 weeks. Till then.. Bake on.

I made this what seems to be a lifetime ago. By iPhoto standards, it tells me January, 27, 2027. I have a feeling little fingers have been playing with Mama’s laptop. Im going to take a stab in the dark and say it was last summer. I very rarely buy berries out of season and these were fresh. I also forgot to write down the specifics about this cake. However, having made almost every single coffee/breakfast cake in the book, I am pretty sure we all loved it. I havent been disappointed by the breakfast type recipes yet. They are always easy and come out perfect.

I searched at several groceries for lemon marmalade with no luck. So, I went with what was available, orange. With that, I swapped orange zest for the lemon as well. I baked in a 9 inch cake pan, with the intent to layer. However, I got lazy once it was out of the oven. Smothered in strained marmalade, whipped up some white chocolate whipped cream and tossed some of the orange zest that was strained on top. I loved it. Especially on day 2. I would definiately make a day in advance from now on. Its so much better after a good sit. I will make this again. I think my Gram would love it. So maybe for the next time I see her. And I will keep a look out for lemon marmalade too. Id like to give the original recipe a shot. I adore lemon.

I am a chocolate chip cookie gal. I make lots and lots of them here. My husband is an oatmeal raisin man. They boys will eat just about any cookie, as long as it doesnt have nuts.

No TWD here. This past week has been a doozy and I just didnt get to it. I know I am dropping the ball. But, sometimes things happen, ya know? I come offering a picture of deer eating out of my neighbors bird feeder and a killer coffee cake from Sass & Veracity. Hopefully thats enough for this week.

Deer may not be that impressive to a lot of people. But, considering I live in suburbia, its quite something to see 4 deer just standing in the neighbors yard, less than 50 feet away.

Coffee cake may not be impressive either. It was wicked good however, and if you are a fan of LOTS of coffee cake crumbs, this is the coffee cake for you. The ratio was about 50/50. Get the recipe here.

I was browsing blogs today, as I often do looking for a project. Actually, I was looking for a cake recipe for Jaos’ upcoming 30th birthday. (On that note, if anyone has a TO DIE FOR carrot cake or chocolate cake recipe, please leave in comments!) Instead, I found this interesting cake made by David Lebovitz. I had never heard of a Kouign Amann before, but you all know that I am anything but worldly. I decided to go right ahead and tackle it. I started at 12:30 and it came out of the oven at 4:22. So, be prepared to spend some time on it. David has easy directions to follow, as well as, some tips that you should follow. His pictures really save the day. Im an idiot when it comes to these fancier recipes.

I tasted it after cooling a few minutes. Buttery, caramelly..and then when taking some from the middle… holy yeast! I was kind of shocked at the seriously strong yeast flavor. But, I liked it, I more than like it.  It came out sort of a cakey/bready texture in the middle. Im not sure if thats how it is supposed to be, but thats what I got. I’ll make this again. While the oldest boys didnt like it, the baby did. And I havent been able to stop picking at the edges.

I just don’t like stuff in my cornbread. I just don’t. And yeah, technically I could have left that stuff out, but I dont really like sweet cornbread either. I like the plain dry cornbread made in a skillet like my Gram Kennedy would make. Thats it. No funny business.

And unfortunately, I do not have another recipe to share either. I baked lemon-lime bars, a praline cake and triple chocolate cookies, but took photos of none.

Sidenote: My brother is bringing BFMHTY back to me this week. I accidentally left it at my Grams at Xmas. Ive been lost without it! I didnt realize how much I use that book until it wasn’t here.
