Tuesdays with Dorie: Chocolate Chunkers

Standard

Luckily, I made these about a month ago on a whim. Jaos, my brilliant husband, suggested that I start taking pictures of all the recipes I made from BFMHTY. I so often bake from the book, whether it be a recipe for TWD or not. Now, I just make sure to snap a picture. I made these with raisins instead of extra chocolate pieces. I can see how white chocolate would have helped the flavor, but alas, I didnt have any in the pantry when I made them. I liked these cookies, but like last week, they were not my favs. I think I may not be a chocolate-chocolate cookie person. They were really easy to make though, and the kids seemed to enjoy them.

Sidenote: I am recovering well from my hysterectomy. Thanks to all who have sent msgs, emails and IMs.The aftermath was a lot more painful than I anticipated. I am thankful that my Mom has come to help out, and Jaos has been such a huge, huge help too. (As well as for the pain pills my Dr gave me, THANK YOU!) I will catch up with TWD admin stuff as soon as I can. xo

  1. Mmmm the innards look brownie like. YUM! I love me some brownies… Glad to hear you’re recovering (slowly but surely). Get well soon.

  2. I agree re not being a chocolately cookie person, I kind of like the more traditional base with lots of chocolate in the cookie…glad to hear you are recovering nicely.

  3. I used white chocolate instead of the raisins and loved them. Great pics and smart idea to take pics of the recipes when you make them!

Hope your recovery is quick! šŸ™‚

  4. beautiful cookies!! i had a hysterectomy when i was 28, with 3 young kids around the house. i’m going to be 50 in november, and i still remember how difficult the recovery was. take very good care of yourself, and don’t push it.

  5. I’m glad you’re recovering well! I know this has been a trying time for you.

I was chocolated-out by these cookies too. Way too much chocolate! Unlike the last few weeks’ cookies, I didn’t feel the need to eat more than one or two–and not because they’re bad, but just because they’re so rich.

  6. Oh my gosh, I hope you’re feeling better! My cousin had the same operation, and I stayed with her and took care of her children while she recuperated. It’s tough. But I hope that you are feeling better now – it must be a weight off your mind. My thoughts are with you and your family.

  7. Hang in there – hope you are felin great again soon!! (too bad o more of thse cookies are around to help you out with that, though…keep taking the meds – it’s almost the same without tasting as good.

  8. I’m so glad you’re recovering well from the surgery. It’s probably a good thing you made these earlier – my boyfriend started reminding me to take pictures of everything I bake too, just in case I want to blog about it šŸ™‚

  9. Hope you feel better soon, and that you have some treats to cheer you that you like better than chocolate cookies!! Great job on the pre=prepared post. I’ve got some pictures of Dorie recipes all sitting in my “draft posts” file.

  10. Your cookies look great! Glad you are recovering and doing well. I do the same thing as you- I’ve got a few baked goods from the book that I’ve made, taken pictures of, and am waiting until they get chosen to post! Hope you can get back into the kitchen soon!

  11. First off, I just wanted to say send you wishes for a quick recovery! I hope you are feeling better very soon. The cookies you made look great and I really enjoyed this recipe.

  12. I’m glad your recovery is going well!! Hope you fell all better soon, these cookies rocked!! I’m doing the same thing, if I make something out of the book I snap a pic and save it for it’s turn :O)

  13. Very best wishes to you, Laurie. Take it easy for a while…

Thanks so much for starting this whole thing! I loved these cookies, but then I love chocolate, the more the better.

  14. I’m glad your recovery is going well. Here’s to continuing going well. Also, be vigilant with mammograms when taking hormones. My MIL had a hysterectomy about 10 years ago and took hormones every since. At the beginning of this year, her yearly mammogram caught a tiny speck. It turned out to be breast cancer that was somehow affected by the hormones. Of course, the mammogram caught it early enough that lumpectomy and some radiation and now she’s cancer free. So remember that mammograms save.
