Tuesdays with Dorie: French Pear Tart

Standard

Okay, this is supposed to be a pear tart. But, I only had apples on hand, forgetting to pick up pears at the store. However, we arent reeaally pear people. So, it all worked out. YAY!

The recipe for this week was picked by Dorie herself. She is our host this week. If you had told me last year at this time that Id be heading a group of nearly 400 people who ALL adore Dorie’s Baking From My Home to Yours, I would have laughed my ass off. Oh how much can change in a year. I have made such great friends in the past year while leading this group. And it wouldnt be right of me to celebrate TWD’s 1 Year Anniversary without thanking them. Nikki, Clara, Holly, Jaime, Caitlin, Erin and Shari. You guys have been around for the long haul, which makes me adore you all. You’ve helped me more than I could ever really tell you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And of course I need to thank Dorie. She has been so incredible to not only me, but the entire group. I am so grateful her support, kindness and assistance as we continue to bake our way through her fab book.

I loved this tart. I loved it. I am ashamed to say that I ate more than I would admit. Its that tasty. The only change I made was using apples rather than pears. I followed the rest of the recipe to a T. It was rather simple to make, assemble and eat. I will definitely make this tart again and again. And I am so thankful that Dorie chose it, because I can honestly say I would not have made it otherwise! I love this group for that very reason.

Happy Anniversary to all my fellow TWD bakers! Thanks for all you do to make this group such a fun hobby. You can check out all the tarts from the TWD blogroll. And please go check out Dorie’s blog for the recipe. Its so worth it. Thanks again Dorie for everything!!!

  1. Laurie, this tart would be amazing with apples (or anything really, as long as the almond cream and the tart crust were there!). I’ve loved TWD, and have loved the book, and now I love this recipe. SOOO glad Dorie picked it! Thanks for all of your work.

Thanks for leading TWD. You do an amazing job. Your tart looks perfect! This recipe was so good. Did you poach the apples too?

  3. Looks terrific Laurie! I agree, I don’t know that I would have made this, yet me and the almond cream, we are great friends now. Too good in fact! Glad that one year can change so much! Thanks for all you do girl!

  4. YUM~ I bet it would be awesome with apples too! Nate and I LOVED this tart! Thanks so much for all your hard work over the past year to keep this fabulous group going and baking incredible things! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TWD!

Your tart is beautiful! Thanks for doing a terrific job of leading the group. I’ve enjoyed it so much and I’m looking forward to the recipes of 2009!

  6. All the thanks go to YOU, your TWD angels and the wonderful bakers who make beautiful desserts every week. I know I’ve said it before, but I don’t think I can say it too many times, you are amazing and I am deeply touched by what you and the TWDers do each week. It’s remarkable! And so very, very, very inspiring. xoxoDorie

I was thinking that apples would be good in this too! Maybe next time 🙂 I’m so glad you started this group, and I’m happy to help in any way I can. I never thought a year ago when I decided to bake along that it would turn into what it did. It really is amazing!

  8. Love the square tart pan. Note to self. Must buy square tart pan. HAHA. What an amazing year it has been. I’ve learned so much from all the bakers and I know I am a better baker than when I first started. Just like Judy said. I could never imagine leaving this group (although my hips have gotten “jolly-er” with every week!). Thanks for everything you do you. I am so happy to call you my friend. *smooches*

  9. Apples sound perfect, yum! I wouldn’t have tried this without it being chosen, either, and we absolutely loved it. That’s one of the things I love about this group and I appreciate all you do for it. Thanks for everything Laurie and happy new year to you and yours!

  10. Thanks for letting me bake with you ..I so enjoy this great group. I love the way your tart turned out. I had some pear placement issues but I thought the taste was incredible. This was a fabulous recipe and Im sure I will make it again.

  11. It looks wonderful, Laurie! Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks again for making this group awesome. You rock 🙂 BTW I used canned peaches instead of pears and that was great too!

  12. I love your pictures, and I was cracking up because I read Dorie’s recipe and she says that apple tarts are her personal favorite. You are SUCH A SUCK UP!!!

    Just kidding.

Love your blog, love this group. You are a star.

  13. This looks delicious!! I can´t wait till I can buy my missing ingredients tomorrow and make it myself!

  14. Happy Anniversary TWD. I’m in awe of how much work and love you’ve put into this project of yours. Simply amazing. Congratulations on one year! Your tart looks just lovely. And for some reason the phrase “we aren’t pear people” had me totally cracking up…. I guess it’s just one of those days 🙂

  15. You already know I love you, but let me just say it again. I hope we can chat again soon now that the craziness of the holidays settles down. Happy Anniversary!

I think your apple tart looks amazing. I am ashamed to admit that I made a half recipe so that I could hoard the almond cream to use in something else… and am now tempted to just make more tarts. It is some incredible stuff.

    Here’s to another great year!

    Muah,
    Holly

  16. Looks fantastic in the square pan…and I think this tart would be great with apples, apricots, peaches, you name it…

  17. thank you, laurie for coming up with the idea to start this group. this cookbook was one of the very first cookbooks i received (Ever!) and this group was just the push i needed to use it regularly 🙂 i’ve loved being a part of this group and all the wonderful people i’ve met along the way – including you! 🙂

it’s funny – it wasn’t until i saw pictures of your tart that i realized that i had sliced mine all wrong 😦 oh well! i love the tartlet pans. i don’t think i’ll ever get larger ones!

  18. Great job! Your tart looks wonderful (hmmm…may have to try apples next time…) and I love the square tart pan!! Thank you for starting TWD; I’m excited to now be a part of this group!! 🙂 This is a recipe that I probably never would have tried on my own, but I think it’s going to become a favorite!!

  19. Happy First Birthday to you Miss Laurie. You are the brain child and our fearless leader. March on!! Thank you so very much for growing such a fabulous blogging group, keeping us organized and informed. Supadoriewoman! Your apple tart looks and sounds so good. I am anxious to try it. I like that you tried a different fruit. The accountability and incentive to bake recipes I would never try are a huge payoff for being a member of TWD! It works. Thanks

  20. Thank you, Laurie, again for starting this amazing group! I’m thrilled to be a part of it. You run it so smoothly and efficiently too.

Your tart looks great in that rectangular pan! I love how the slices are fanned out. I bet it would have been wonderful with apples.

  21. Thanks for all you do to keep this awesome group baking! Loved this tart. Yours looks awesome in the square form! YUMMY. (I ate more of our tart than I care to admit, too! Shhh.) ; )

  22. Happy Anniversary, and we owe it all to you, our fearless leader! Thanks for all of your work — I have no doubt that this whole thing has gotten way bigger (with much more work!) than you could have ever anticipated! I’ve had a ball in the 5 months I’ve been a part of the group. THANK YOU!! Your tart looks amazing! I think it would be every bit as wonderful with apples!

  23. Happy Anniversary…it’s been such a fun treat to participate in this group, I sincerely appreciate your hard work and commitment to keeping things going. I’m definitely going to try usings apples the next time I make this (which will be very soon)!

  24. teaandscones

And another rectangular tart pan. It is lovely. Ordered the pan from W-S and will try all my tarts that way from now on. And I bet the apples were really good here, I am not a big pear fan….. NIce job.

  25. I’ve had fun lurking through everyone’s posts in this TWD group, enjoying each delicious recipe you’ve made. I’m not really a pear person either, but have taken some risks to find what makes them taste better. But when it gets right down to it, they never come close to apples….Gorgeous tart!
